About the Journal

The Journal of Respiratory Medicine and Population Health (JRMPH) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing knowledge in pulmonology, respiratory medicine, and population-level public health, with particular attention to challenges relevant to sub-Saharan Africa.

Focus and Scope

JRMPH publishes original research articles, systematic and narrative reviews, and case reports on topics including:

  • Respiratory infections, including tuberculosis
  • Chronic respiratory diseases (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • Environmental and occupational respiratory health
  • Population-based epidemiological studies of respiratory and public health outcomes
  • Health systems and policy research relevant to respiratory care in low- and middle-income countries

Peer Review Process

All submissions to JRMPH undergo double-anonymous (double-blind) peer review: author and reviewer identities are concealed from each other throughout the process to reduce bias.

Manuscripts are first screened by the editorial team for fit with the journal's scope and basic methodological soundness; those that pass are sent to at least two independent reviewers, selected for their subject-matter expertise and the absence of a competing interest with the authors or the work. Reviewers are asked to return their assessment within three weeks.

Based on the reviewers' reports, the editor renders one of four decisions: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject. Revised manuscripts are typically returned to the original reviewers for a second round. Authors who believe a decision was made in error may appeal in writing to the editorial team, who will reconsider the manuscript and the reviewers' reports.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. There is no subscription fee for readers and no embargo period: every article is available in full from the moment it is published.

All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited. Authors retain copyright and are free to self-archive any version of their article in an institutional or subject repository at any time.
